Classroom Project - A father's promise

Synopsis : This is a story of the manifestation of a father-son relationship despite all odds.

Here are some snapshots from the film.

Abhibashi Magazine Cover

This was a cover that I drew for a bi-annual Bengali magazine "Abhibashi".

The theme for the magazine for this session is "Theater" and with Durga Puja just around the corner, they required me to incorporated some element of that as well into the drawing. I made two versions of it. This one is the final version, the one that I finally submitted to the editors with the proposed layout.

However, things didn't quite go as planned with the publishers due to some miscommunication and the final printed version looks like this.

In the previous version, I had tried to use the Tholpavakoothu shadow puppet art form and use that to show bring out the subject. However, I wasn't very happy with the result and decided to rework on it.

I made this one using acrylics and photo inks, and detailed the puppets with a ball pen. On a personal note, I must admit that the puppets which are actually used for the plays in Kerala, are much more detailed than what I could hope to portray in my version of them.

The Open Window

This was a short story written by Saki, that I illustrated for "Joydhaak".

Here's a summary of the story as per wikipedia:

"The Open Window is a short story about Frampton Nuttel. Mr. Nuttel heads out to the countryside to calm his nervous condition, he takes along with him a handful of introduction letters his sister had given him. Mr. Nuttel visits the home of Mrs. Sappleton (as addressed on one of the letters), meets a young girl, the niece of Mrs. Sappleton, and she proceeds to have some fun at his expense. She explains that on that very day, three years earlier, their family had met with misfortune. The aunt’s husband and her two brothers were swallowed up in the bog near the moor and never found. It's further explained that each day the large French window is left open in hopes that the missing loved ones will return. The aunt rushes into the main sitting room and just then, outside the open window, Mrs. Sappleton’s husband and two brothers appear, having come back from a recent hunting trip."

Loopdeloop - Rock

This was my submission for the monthly animation competition Loop de Loop. The competition is basically about making a loop based around the month's theme "Rock".

Finished this one in about a day and a half, trying to break out from my usual sketchy style into a very flat and basic approach

Mechanics

My friend and I were coming back from dinner one night and stopped by a sugarcane juice seller. While watching the juice-wallah churning out juice from the sugarcane, we were trying to figure out which wheel was linked to the other which caused them to rotate in this manner. After coming back to the studio, when I was taking a break from work, I decided to work with something that involved such a mechanical structure.

Revisiting some old Friends

It has been a long time since I last drew a decent comic book capered hero, say maybe two years ago. It's a startling realisation that I have come to terms with. It's not that I have grown out of it, indeed, it would be a crime to leave behind Batmans and Supermans to gather dust on one's shelf. But it came to me as a welcome breath of fresh air when I was offered a chance to make posters for an upcoming comic book event happening in Takshzila wherein all of my favourite heroes in tights, and more, are going to be put on display. These are some of the posters that I have worked on, will put up more images soon!

1) Dark Horse Universe
2) DC Comics Universe
3) Marvel Universe
4) Dark Horse Universe
5) Batman Comics
6) Buddha
7) V for Vendetta
8) Calvin and Hobbes

Have worked on these posters under a strict deadline of 4 days for 8 posters, It was honestly really hectic, but am glad things sorted themselves out in the end. Cheers!
