HCL - Ideapreneurs comic

Here are a couple of panels from a comic that I had worked on for HCL's ideapreneur series with ITSA, Delhi. I really appreciate Abhisaar and Vaibhav's help from ITSA, for their support during this project.

The entire anthology can be viewed here. In the link, my comic comes in second, under the title "The Flight of Ideas".

The Trial of 2091 - science fiction book illustration project

I recently had the pleasure of working on a science fiction book illustration project for the soon to be released book " The Trial of 2091 " written by Sarang Gupta.
The website link here might give an idea regarding the contents of the book.

It was quite an exciting project with its own constraints and freedoms, constraints regarding the limitations in the usage of colours and keeping in mind the paper quality on which they were to be printed, and the freedom of visualising the environment and cityscape of the time period that I was dealing with here - a futuristic utopia.

The following are among the final illustrations for the book:

The following were my explorations for the cover design for the book:

This is the final cover of the book:

This is the debut novel of science fiction enthusiast Sarang Gupta, I really look forward to more great stuff coming from him.

Illustration for Joydhaak - July 2014

This is an illustration that I've worked on for a story for the new issue of Joydhaak. It is a touching story of a meeting between a street dog and a beggar girl and their sharing of a meal found on the road.

Steampunk! - 2

Steampunk!

"Steamboy" is a film that I won't be forgetting anytime soon. These are some sketches that I worked on which are very influenced by the film. I will be putting up a few more explorations and a coloured illustration in a couple of days.

Tantrics of Old - Book Cover

I recently had the pleasure of illustrating the book cover for my friend, Krishnarjun Bhattacharya's debut novel "Tantrics of Old". It is a dystopian narrative, set in Kolkata, India, where demons roam free and angels rise from their ashes.

The book is set to be launched on the 30th of May, 2014. I wish him the very best. The pre-order links are up on flipkart :  http://www.flipkart.com/tantrics-of-old/p/itmdvzw8qufnjggz?pid=9788172345228

"Noh"

I have been lately watching a bit of anime on the side and couldn't resist trying out animating an action sequence of my own. I created a character called "Noh" who is a ninja who dons a Japanese theatre Noh mask. I've always found "Noh" masks pretty creepy due to the absence of humanity in the character's faces. Here are some stills of the film given below:

Getting feedback from friends and family while working is very beneficial, especially in an endeavour such as this, wherein this being a personal project, it would have failed to take into account the audience who might be viewing it later. I changed the colour scheme and a number of shots even after I had completed animating them, based on feedbacks from my friends, Krishnarjun Bhattacharya and Shravan Arvind, and also my family.

United Nations Development Programme - The Water Seekers

I had worked with film-maker Diya Banerjee, on one of her projects funded by the UNDP on ways to tackle water scarcity in rural areas by employing common sense methods rather than using elaborate technology.

The documentary, "The Water Seekers" is a very commendable effort by her with regards to enlightening people about the troubles faced by our farmers in securing their livelihood. I had the pleasure of animating two sequences for her documentary to illustrate the concepts of water saving techniques. Though simplistic science diagrams would have sufficed, I wanted to go one step ahead in livening up the scenarios using organic transitions between each new method of water conservation.

1st sequence illustrating the different types of water harvesting structures:

2nd sequence illustrating the practices which lead to the depletion of water reserves in an area

The full film is up here on vimeo:

Working with Ms. Diya Banerjee was a great experience and I would like to wish her all the best with her future endeavours.

"Raanjhanaa" : logo animation for Colour Yellow Pictures Pvt. Ltd.

Last year, I had the pleasure of working on the logo animation for the opening sequence of the Hindi feature film "Raanjhanaa". Colour Yellow Pictures is a newly formed production house which debuted with this feature film starring one of the most prominent leading actors in Tamil cinema today, Dhanush.

The name of the production house being Colour Yellow, I decided to use actual coloured powder "rangoli" to animate the sequence. The final outcome is as given below.

I was overwhelmed by the fact that one of the most gifted people in world music today, Mr. A R Rahman later composed the music for the final track of the animation. I came up with the concept of unity and oneness with nature based on the Japanese concept of "Enso" after having come across their logo.

The animation that I had used for pitching my concept of "Enso" is as given below:

Mr. Harsshil R Patel was instrumental in the post production and packaging of the final product and also for guiding me through the entire process of executing the desired animation.
